Q: Does the course cover large commercial water systems?

The course is not designed to cover large commercial water systems, water towers, or cooling systems in any depth.

Q: What experience/qualifications do I need to enrol in the Legionella Prevention and Water Treatment (LPWT) Course?

Depending on the version of the course you wish to enrol in, you will need to fulfil the following requirements. For the plumbers and operators version of the course, you must hold a professional qualification (N/SVQ Level 2 or higher) with a valid certificate in WRAS Water Regulations and (ideally) at least two years professional experience. For the supervisors and managers version of the course, you don’t need any formal qualifications; however, you should have a good understanding of water systems and current best practice legislation. If you’re unsure whether this course is right for you or not, talk to our team of teachers and engineers . We’ll be happy to offer you all the advice and guidance you may need.

Q: Which Approved Plumber Schemes can I join if I secure my NVQ Diploma?

If you were to secure your NVQ Diploma in Plumbing & Heating (Level 2), you’d be eligible to join any of the following Approved Plumber Schemes: The JIB-PMES CSCS Registration Scheme Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme Anglian Water APLUS approved plumber scheme Severn Trent Water Mark approved plumber scheme Thames Water Approved Contractor Scheme (TAPS) If you’re unsure of which scheme might work best for you or what action to take once you earn your qualification, you can always chat to us before you book your place and we can help you work out which approach is best for you.

Q: Do I need to have earned my Diploma (or equivalent qualification) at Staffordshire Training Centre to join the NVQ Upskill Pathway?

Absolutely not, you don’t need to have trained with us before to join this pathway. We welcome any and all plumbers, engineers and professionals-in-training to join us at our Stafford-based training centre and earn their NVQ Diploma.

Q: Do I need to have access to a workplace to join the NVQ Upskill Pathway?

Yes, you will need to have access to a workplace where you can gather evidence of NVQ-level skills and experience. Depending on your level of experience, we advise you consider arranging for on-site supervision by a plumber, heating engineer, or someone with relevant professional experience and/or qualifications.

Q: When can I enrol in the NVQ Upskill Pathway in Plumbing & Heating?

You can enrol for the NVQ Upskill Pathway at any time of the year. We accept learners for this pathway throughout the year and to a point, we can work around your schedule to ensure you can secure your qualification as you continue working/training alongside your studies.

Q: Which registration bodies can I join if I secure my Water Regulations Certificate?

Provided you have a NVQ Diploma (level 2) or equivalent qualification (or higher), once you secure your certificate, you will be able to apply to the following professional bodies: your local water authority’s Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme (WIAPS) a Competent Person Scheme (CPS) in a relevant plumbing industry the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) If you’re unsure of which scheme might work best for you or what action to take once you earn your certificate, you can always chat with us before you book your place and we can help you work out which approach is best for you.
